Project Overview

The Heron’s Lock development in Clonburris (currently under construction) is located to the south of Adamstown and marks the western entrance to the larger Clonburris Strategic Development Zone to the East. The development ,over a 8.9Ha site, consists of 385 residential units a density of 50 units per hectare,

The proposed residential element includes 139no. two storey houses, consisting of a mix of 8 different types of 3 and 4 bed units, arranged in detached, terraced and semi-detached formats. Adding to this mix are a mix of 142 no. duplex units, consisting of 2 & 3 bed units at ground with 2 & 3 bed units at first, second & third floor levels.

The development is defined by a four storey street edge overlooking the Newcastle Road combining apartment buildings and four storey own door duplex buildings. The new Clonburris Link Street which runs from the junction with the Newcastle Road across all of the Clonburris development, lands is defined by three storey, own door, dual fronted duplex units. The remaining tree lined local streets which radiate to the north and south are lined with terraces of two storey housing in a variety of formats.

From a place making and urban legibility point of view the development uses gable forms to mark important junctions and aid in way finding. A mixed palette of brick tones and render colours on alternate buildings create interest and variety and give the new area a distinct character, within a range of lively streetscapes.
