City Square Shopping Centre, Waterford
Project Overview
Located at the heart of Waterford City’s retail, historic, and medieval core, City Square Shopping Centre has undergone a €6 million transformation to enhance its retail offering and visitor experience.
The redevelopment includes two new two-storey retail units, adding 1,579 sqm (17,000 sqft) of prime retail space. Positioned at the Peter Street entrance, these units significantly improve the key approach from Broad Street and establish a new, high-quality retail environment at the Peter Street Mall.
The new MSU’s are complemented by upgraded first-floor toilet facilities. This enhancement strengthens the retail mix at this end of the centre, boosts footfall, and encourages pedestrian flow between City Square and the surrounding retail core.
Architecturally, the new Peter Street entrance units form a striking visual landmark, designed to reflect the presence and character of the nearby stone tower and pay homage to the historic Viking Triangle.
Both internally and externally, City Square has received a comprehensive facelift. The external façades now feature a contemporary palette of materials including off-white Portuguese limestone, natural-toned copper, brushed stainless steel panels, and dark stone framing to the glass shopfronts.
All construction and upgrade works were completed while the centre remained fully open and operational
