Project Overview

The new Inpatient Unit on the Raheny campus, provides 24 no. specialist palliative care private patient rooms, clinical support facilities, a new mortuary, staff facilities, family rooms, offices and underground car park along with bridge links to the existing St. Francis Hospice buildings.

The new glazed entrance to the IPU looks out over the new landscaped plaza at the front of the campus. The plan shape of the building is a simple “L” form with all in-patient rooms oriented south, south/west overlooking the newly created garden deck. The deck is landscaped to provide a small semi-private seated area directly outside each of the ground floor rooms and these spaces further connect to communal areas in the garden where people and family/friends can gather.

This new development, which will be co-located with existing hospice services and facilities including day, out-patient, community palliative care, education and all support services, will serve to meet the growing specialist palliative care needs of the community of North Dublin and surrounding counties into the future.
