Conrad Hotel, Earlsfort Terrace
PROJECT DETAILS
Conrad Hotel, Earlsfort Terrace
The Conrad Hotel, completed in 1989, was built as part of an overall city centre renewal development consisting of offices, apartments and the hotel, built on the site of the old Alexandra School on Earlsfort Terrace. It accommodates 200 bedrooms and suites over public areas, all over basement car parking and service areas. It is a brick building on the street. It shares and opens onto a landscaped plaza which also acts as an entrance forecourt to adjoining office buildings. In summer time the plaza has a lively atmosphere with its drinks terrace, and westerly aspect.
The latest addition to this hotel is the new main entrance canopy, consisting of 64m² of single plain fritted glazing suspended from a tubular stainless steel space frame and columns. The combination of the night time lighting which is provided by a bank of twenty downlights mounted above the canopy frame and the dappled fritting of the glass combine to provide a dry and welcoming place of arrival at the entrance to the Hotel.
