PROJECT DETAILS
School of Nursing and Health Sciences, AIT
The building was constructed to house teaching space, lecture facilities and hospital simulation wards for the new third level course in Nursing and Health Science. The 2 storey building is arranged along an east/ west corridor with a double height space at the reception/ entrance area. All of the larger teaching spaces are located on the north facade where the ventilation is mechanically assisted through motorized vents in the glazing system and solar gain is minimized. Smaller individual offices are located on the south façade to maximize the benefits of this orientation.
The façade treatment is a mix of stack bonded engineering brick and self coloured render with an over sailing pitched roof. The cafe element is picked out with a curving patinated copper wall which clearly marks this building as the gateway to the new campus from the main road.
